PAST WORKSHOPS & TRAININGS
Prenatal Teacher Training
January 2020, Dates Listed Below
I am pleased to announce we will be holding our first Prenatal Teacher Training at Juniper Yoga & Healing Arts. I will be teaching this training alongside my amazing colleagues, Deborah Bag, Sonia Reiter & Amy Baumgarten.
Prenatal Yoga at Love is Juniper is rooted in the understanding that conception, pregnancy, birth, postpartum and new parenthood are time periods of extreme physical and spiritual transformation and growth. Our holistic prenatal classes prepare and strengthen our clients through movement, the sharing of knowledge and the fostering of community. In this training you will learn Juniper's approach to teaching prenatal classes, a balanced combination of rich buoyant movement and grounding stillness.
Our Prenatal teacher training program will provide yoga teachers with the confidence, sensitivity and know-how to support pregnant people at all stages of pregnancy and postpartum. Our curriculum provides an understanding of prenatal yoga in the larger context of contemporary birth and an in-depth look at asanas, breathing practices and the use props for each trimester. We also discuss the art and importance of community building and cultural sensitivity in the prenatal classroom, as well as the importance of empowering our students to take agency in understanding the needs of their unique body.
Our prenatal teacher training faculty members are seasoned yoga teachers and expert perinatal professionals working across various disciplines from pelvic floor rehabilitation, doula and lactation support and perinatal mental health.
This 35 hour training includes contact hours with instructors as well as four class observations, self-study and homework.

Honoring the Cycle: Yoga, Herbs & Practices for Menstrual Health
A workshop for any person who menstruates
Saturday, May 20th at Third Root Community Health Center
Our menstrual cycle is a powerful and important force that affects our overall physical and emotional health. Yet in much of the world it remains a taboo and is rarely talked about openly or with the respect it deserves. As a result menstrual health unfortunately is underestimated, if not often overlooked, by many care providers. Even in the yoga classroom, contraindications for menstruation are rarely discussed. Being conscious of our cycles and engaging in practices that support our bodies natural process can bring us into a state of overall balance and good health. The hormonal and energetic shifts we experience as a result of ovulation and menstruation are ongoing and experienced throughout the month, not just the few days we bleed.
In this workshop, Yoga Teacher, Herbalist and Doula, Alicia Allison will discuss the importance of creating consciousness and respect for one’s cycle. She will discuss the hormonal shifts we experience throughout the month and the connection between our cycle and the moon. Through the lens of yoga, we will explore how to nurture ourselves appropriately through the month. The effects of yoga asanas on menstruation will be discussed and Alicia will teach which poses are indicated and contraindicated during and immediately after menstruation. She will also speak about the impact of our diet on menstrual health and will introduce a few western herbs that tonify the uterus and assist with menstrual discomforts and hormonal imbalances.
This workshop is open to any person who currently menstruates or has menstruated in the past.
Alicia’s handcrafted & organic herbal tea will be served.
Saturday, May 20th 2-4pm
Sliding scale $20-45, open to anyone who menstruates.

Inversion Lab: Refining the Yogic Art of Going Upside-Down
A workshop on Adho Mukha Vrksasana, Salamba Sarvangasana & Salamba Sirsasana
Saturday, February 18th at Third Root Community Health Center
Inversion practice is at the heart of Hatha Yoga. Of shoulderstand, B.K.S. Iyengar said “Sarvangasana is one of the greatest boons conferred on humanity by our ancient sages.” Inversions are rejuvenating and invigorating; they strengthen our spine and heart, promote clarity of mind, balance our hormones and bring out the playful child in each of us. These are poses that require dedication, self-trust and a willingness to face our fears. Often in fast-paced yoga classes, we do not have enough time or space to dig into these challenging poses. In this hands-on workshop, Alicia Allison will present the benefits of regular practice of handstand, headstand and shoulderstand and will guide you through the precise and safe alignment of each pose. You will work with various props based on the principals of Iyengar Yoga. Modifications and refinements will be provided for intermediate through advanced practitioners; restorative and L-shaped versions will also be presented so that all practitioners can learn how to modify each pose for their unique body. All students will have a space at a wall and a bolster for support in restorative work.
February 18th, 2017, 4:30-6:30pm

Fourth Trimester Nourishment
Healing postpartum foods, plants & practices for the whole family
SATURDAY, MARCH 18TH AT THIRD ROOT COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER
The early postpartum period is a time like no other time in life; it is magical, messy, miraculous and full of emotional highs and lows. Being a new parent is at times utterly exhausting and at other times fully blissful. During this special moment in life, the newborn baby, the person who gave birth and the entire family goes through a tremendous transition (including beloved pets!). Nourishing warm foods and beverages that support healing, a calm environment and the right kind of support are essential for postpartum healing.
Often in our modern day with busy schedules and the intensity of labor looming, we spend a great deal of time preparing for birth but give little thought to the demanding weeks that will follow. It is key to remember that during “The Fourth Trimester” the journey of birth is still unfolding; both newborns and newly born (or expanding) families are vulnerable and sensitive, in need of continuous care, emotional soothing and practical support.
Drawing on wisdom provided by Ayurveda and other traditions of postpartum care from around the world, Alicia Allison will present a workshop on postpartum nourishment for the whole family. She will discuss specific healing foods, the energetics of the postpartum period and practices that will help new parents stay grounded and strong as they enter this new “season of life.”
March 18th, 2017, 2:00-4:00PM
Sliding scale rate of $20-45. Open to all people who are pregnant or postpartum, babies welcome.
