To quote, Penny Simkin, “Pregnancy is a state of becoming.”  It is a time of transformation and growth, a time of opening, intuition and emotion.  It is a time to nurture the body and mind and to seek and accept support from both loved ones and caregivers that believe in the innate wisdom of the body. 

Inspired by the work of birth advocates and trailblazers such as Ina May Gaskin, Penny Simkin & Debra-Pascali Bonaro, I am committed to helping create better birth and postpartum experiences for all people.  I am a DONA International trained birth and postpartum doula, a postpartum chef and a western herbalist with a focus on women's and family health.  I also teach prenatal and postpartum yoga.

My POSTPARTUM CHEF & Herbalist Service

There's nothing more healing and nourishing then the smell  of home-cooked food filling a house, especially in the early days postpartum.  Food is grounding and so important for establishing a healthy milk supply and a general feeling of wholeness during this special time. 

In our modern day it can be incredibly challenging to find the time to cook and this only becomes heightened in the postpartum period. I bring my background in Ayurveda and my love of whole, organic and farm-fresh foods to the table providing families with warm nourishing meals that are healthy, easy to digest and delicious. I cook all meals in your home; everything is made from scratch with the highest quality ingredients and utmost care.  Having support in this way will make you stronger, more adaptable and will allow you time to rest and connect with your newborn.

Postpartum Baby in Brooklyn

Postpartum Doula

As a DONA International trained Postpartum Doula, I am there to "nurture the nurturers" and offer support during this special and intense moment in life.  On any given day I might offer you tips on baby cues and care, help with household organization, hold your baby while you take a hot shower or a much needed nap or spend some time talking and listening (non-judgementally always) to you about any concerns or emotions that have come up. I'm trained in basic breastfeeding support and know how to help you find resources for things that are beyond my scope of practice.   Since I'm trained in yoga, I also offer guidance on postnatal yoga, breathing and provide light therapeutic bodywork.

PRENATAL, Fertility & postpartum herbalist  

Herbs can be used when one is trying to conceive and throughout pregnancy to strengthen the womb, overall health and ease prenatal discomforts.  During the postpartum period herbs heal and hydrate, provide warmth and support lactation and digestion. Herbs can always be used help us manage and recover from stress.  If you are interested in using herbs in this way, it is best to work with an experienced herbalist.  I only work with gentle and organic herbs during this time; a variety of preparations are used such infusions, tinctures, oils, sitz baths, & bottom sprays.

* I do not advise drinking the current Clover and Timothy tea line while trying to conceive, pregnant or postpartum.  A prenatal and postnatal line is in the works; custom blends are always available.


PRENATAL & POSTPARTUM YOGA

Regular yoga practice throughout pregnancy will ease prenatal tension, increase circulation to the whole body, strengthen your uterus and cultivate confidence in the innate wisdom of your body as you prepare for birth.  I teach prenatal yoga classes that are strengthening, playful and calming.  Postpartum yoga sessions are offered after 4-6 weeks postpartum.  Sessions are conducted in a parent/baby style so that you can move and rest with your newborn close by.  Postures that rebuild core and pelvic integrity and release shoulder and neck tension are focused upon, as are restorative poses that will provide energy and time for processing and rejuvenation.

Because each family and each birth experience is incredibly unique, I offer customized packages that can include any of the offerings listed above.  Packages are priced by number of visits.  Most chef visits are 5 hours long and include cooking, shopping & basic clean up.  For clients who wish to also receive postpartum bodywork, sessions may be longer.  For more information, please inquire using the form below.
